Half the Sky Exhibit
Hello Fellow World Changers!
Yesterday I went to the opening of the Women Hold Up Half The Sky exhibit at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation Visitor Center. The exhibit features stories of women whose lives have been positively impacted by education, economic empowerment, courage and hope.
My family and I listened to a speech about a woman's personal experience with domestic violence, how it was very hard to escape from it and, how it negatively affected her confidence. Thanks to a supportive community, she is now healing and fighting domestic violence.
We made buttons emblazoned with inspirational sayings (For mine I wrote the first line of my favorite quote, “Be the change that you wish to see in the world.” ― Mahatma Gandhi)
We also assembled hygiene kits for girls in poor communities that are having their periods. According to the Days for Girls website, their goal is to promote health education and for every girl to have access to feminine hygiene by 2020.
We also created postcards that 'give back.' For every postcard we wrote, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation will donate $5 to an organization making a difference in maternal health, trafficking and empowering women and girls.
Through this experience I learned that by empowering women we are also empowering the whole world.
The exhibit will be on display until January 27, 2018 at the Bill and Melinda Gates Visitor Center.
Keep STRIVING!
